This is Lee Weir. Apart from being a Westside Weapon, Lee is also a part of our team at The All Good Club and someone that really inspires us. He has a heart of gold and he's shared a little about himself here... have a read!
My name is Lee Weir. I am from the mean streets of Ranui, West Auckland. I am a radio announcer for The Rock FM, a marriage celebrant and a social media specialist for a BBQ restaurant. I like to have my fingers in as many pies as I can; idle hand’s are the devil’s workshop etc.
When my mum died in 2010 (cancer) I hit bottom pretty bad, I was 22. I went way too hard on the bottle and worked myself into a state where I just didn’t see the point anymore. Talking to a good friend who had been through the same thing as me was really helpful, we sat down and just hung out one afternoon. We hashed out what was going on in my head and talked about how my actions were affecting other people in my life. Then we chatted about the loss of his father, his experience and how he got through it.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to talk to someone about how you're feeling. Once you speak life into your thoughts and feelings and make them audible, they sting a little less. John Lennon once wrote ‘I get by with a little help from my friends’ and that’s how I got by; with a little help from my friends. Have a scroll through the contacts list in your phone, flick someone a txt and let someone, anyone know if you’re not O.K.
You’re not a burden and it’s never a chore.
Having said all that, if you’re having a really shit time mentally and your thoughts are leaning far more toward the dark than the light, talking a professional is also incredibly worthwhile. I’ve done that. Sometimes it’s good to unload your feelings and problems on a complete stranger.
THANK YOU LEE FOR SHARING YOUR STORY! PEOW PEOW!
